What is JEE Main Exam?

The Joint Entrance Examination (Main), popularly called JEE Main, is the exam conducted for admission to BTech, BArch and BPlan courses at NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), Institutions/Universities funded/recognized by participating State Governments. The JEE Main exam is also an eligibility test for JEE Advanced, conducted for admission to IITs.

How to Apply for JEE Mains

Candidates can apply for JEE Main with the help of the below-mentioned step-by-step guide.

Step 1- Open the JEE Main official website .

Step 2- Click on the JEE Main Registration link

Step 3- Select the preferred mode of registration and Fill in the required details and click on the “Submit” button to complete the registration

After the completion of the JEE Main registration process, candidates will receive an email and message in their registered email ID and mobile phone number with details of the application form number and password. Candidates will need to keep safe/save the details of registration.

Step 4- After completion of registration, candidates will be redirected to the page for filling out the detailed application form. In this step, candidates must provide educational qualifications, parents' details, address of communication and permanent address, and exam center preference.

Step 5- Upload scanned images of passport-size photographs and signature

Step 6- Pay the JEE Main Registration fees

Step 7- The application form will be automatically submitted after the successful payment of application fees.

Candidates need to download the filled application form and take its printout. It is advised that candidates keep safe the print copy of the application form until the completion of the admission process.

FAQ

Is the syllabus of JEE Mains reduced?
Yes, the JEE Main 2024 syllabus has been reduced. The syllabus has been revised to focus on core concepts. Some changes include: 
 
  • Mathematics: Mathematical Induction and Mathematical Reasoning units have been removed from the syllabus of Mathematics. 
  • Physics: In Physics, Communication Device units has been removed from the syllabus
  • Chemistry: Surface Chemistry, States of Matter, General Principles and Processes of Isolation of Metals, Hydrogen, Environmental Chemistry, Alcohol Phenol and Ether, Polymers chapters have been removed.
The JEE Main 2024 syllabus is available on the National Testing Agency (NTA) website. The syllabus contains 64 chapters, with 16 in math, 20 in physics, and 28 in chemistry.
What is JEE Main Eligibility marks in class 12th?

NTA JEE Main eligibility criteria for candidates to appear in the exam is

  • There is no minimum or maximum percentage required to appear in JEE Main. However, candidate need to have 75% marks in class 12 in addition to a valid JEE Main rank in order to get admission in NITs, IIITs and other CFTIs.  
  • Candidate must have passed class 12 in 2022, 2023 or appearing in 2024
  • Candidate must have Maths and Physics as a compulsory subejct in class 12 for Paper 1 (BTech)
  • For Paper 2A (BArch), it is compulsory to have Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in class 12 and for Paper 2B (BPlan), candidate must have Mathematics in class 12
  • There is no age limit to apply for JEE Main

 

In how much time can I complete the entire JEE Main syllabus?

The time required to cover JEE Main syllabus would vary for every student however, to complete the entire JEE Main syllabus, students would require around 1 year. The ideal time to start preparing for JEE Main is class 12 as the syllabus for JEE and class 12 is similar. Students who are studying in class 12 can point out the topics that are common in both and pay special emphasis to that.

What is the syllabus of JEE Mains?

JEE Main is conducted for multiple courses and the syllabus is different for each course. The syllabus of JEE Main Paper 1 (BE/B.Tech) includes class 11 and 12 Physics Chemistry and Mathematics topics.
